SPECIAL RULES: Bag and possession limit for trout, except lake trout, and kokanee salmon is 4 fish, singly or in
the aggregate. Bag and possession limit for lake trout is 4 fish. Sept. 1-Dec. 31, bag and possession limit for kokanee
is 10 fish. See the Colorado Fishing regulations for the most current rules.
LAKE TROUT: In early summer when runoff is coming into the lake at the inlet in Arapaho Bay fish stick baits,
spoons, spinners, or streamers for Macks in 2-6 feet of water. After runoff subsides look for macks deep. Trolling baits,
with Lead-core, weighted line or down riggers, near the bottom when fish are in 50 feet or less is one of the top methods
for getting lake trout. You can also vertical jig tubes or spoons tipped with sucker meat. When they are deeper look for
macks in the 80-100 foot range over channels and near drop-offs or other structure and down riggers will be the best
approach. Big Mackinaw are frequently caught on baits tipped with sucker meat. You must keep your bait within a few feet
of the bottom. Mack's spend most of the time out in the center of the channels but come up shallower (20-50 feet) to
spawn in the fall. NOTE: When macks are in water 50 feet or less they are always next to bottom. Using lead-core line go
out 10 colors and pull a 1 ounce Red Eye Wiggler with Brass back (28GR). Or add a 2-ounce keel weight and go out 7 colors.
Be prepared to have a sore arm after reeling in that much lead-core. That's why down riggers or vertical jigging my be
better when macks are really deep.
KOKANEE: Use Mack's Wedding Rings, Needlefish, small Kastmasters or a Dodger and fly or Kokanee bug. Also try
Uncle Joe's or Arnie's in green and red. Troll lead core or weighted line over the channel. Small kokanee will be up in
the bays and inlets until the water temp tops 55 degrees but the bigger fish will be out deeper 10-20 feet in June. Fish
will go deeper as summer goes on. Look for fish at 25-35 feet in July.
RAINBOW: Productive throuhout the day. Try trolling Mack's Wedding Ring, Panther Martins, Rooster Tails, and
Kastmasters. Concentrate on the coves that still hold water. If the water is down, fish the mouth of the cove.
Imitation salmon eggs and worms under a clear float is a good technique. Make sure to use light line. Fly fishermen use
nymphs or woolly buggers under a clear float.
